E.B. Wilson: The Principled Life

E.B. Wilson, St. Lawrence '53: "Men of Principle did not and does not deviate from the founders' vision of this Fraternity. That is the genuine beauty, if not the genius of Men of Principle. It reaffirms the founders' visions and the supporting principles so that they are clear and compelling in the context of today's campus culture.

"Men of Principle gives us the capacity to talk about Greek life to reaffirm the Beta principles, to communicate what we stand for in contemporary programs and language so that those legions of doubters, those who wrote off the Greek societies, can now perceive our values in new light.

"Men of Principle has provided Beta the opportunity to stand alone, to be distinctive, to lead, to speak about a commitment to reform and to do so with active, funded programs backed by resolute policies and practices.

"A generational torch is being passed. You are held accountable for the strength and durability of your link in the Beta chain. Those strengths are derived from fidelity to (our) principles. They were articulated by our founders and reaffirmed by Men of Principle. Their continuing endurance, however, depends upon your unambiguous adoption of the principled life of a Beta brother."
